Description

In December 1984, Dr. Emil Haury donated to the Arizona State Museum 97 items of memorabilia that he had, not surprisingly for a museum man, carefully numbered and labeled, and for which he had prepared an itemized inventory, in subsequent years he added 20 more objects. These mementos were derived primarily from his exceptionally long and illustrious career in Southwestern archaeology, but included a few personal items as well. His various diplomas are included: Bachelor of Arts, University of Arizona, 1 June 1927; Master of Arts, University of Arizona, 30 May 1928; Doctor of Philosophy, Harvard University, 21 June 1934. Reid (1993:257-259) assembled a list of the astonishing number of honors, awards, certificates, degrees, diplomas, and appointments that Doc was given. Together these make quite a pile of parchments and plaques, but perhaps the most visually striking item is the large gold colored 1950 Viking Fund Medal for Anthropology (see below).
